GM’s Summary:
Adelyn & Alric lead the rebels up into the Inner Bailey and a siege of the guards in the Outer Bailey begins. In the mean time, the party splits off to fight a number of Chaos creatures, including members of the von Wittgenstein family. They find the resting place of Dagmar’s meteorite, but too late to stop Skaven from stealing it. The castle is undermined and quickly begins to collapse. Only the party and half a dozen rebels survive.

GM’s Summary:
While waiting for their evening raid to begin, Alric and Adelyn return to Doctor Rousseaux’s house, frightening him into fleeing and killing him in front of most of the remaining villagers. They then search his house for clues, finding several signs of Chaos influence, and burn the place down. The raid commences and the two enter the secret tunnel system thought to lead to the Castle. They fight some nasty things there.

GM’s Summary:
Alric and Matthew (a.k.a. Mathulil) Adelyn (Retcon: As noted in the previous chapter, anything done by Mathulil was re-defined as something Adelyn had done instead. Assume all further references to Adelyn in this chapter were also originally references to Mathulil instead.) receive one more warning message from the Purple Hand, and then a cultist casts a curse on Alric, turning his left hand completely purple. Nothing comes from their pursuit. They depart for Wittgendorf and find it to be worse even than it looked when they’d sailed by it in the past. After trying to deal with the impoverished locals, they skirmish with guards from the Castle, looking for some sort of “outlaws,” killing one. Soon, the village is swarming with dark-armoured guards, who seize the Ungenannt and sail it into a cavern below Castle Wittgenstein. The party snipe at the guards a bit, then hide in the village’s abandoned Sigmarite temple. There, they find extensive records explaining the area’s history, and Alric takes a holy Sigmarite sword. The next morning, Hilda takes them deep into the woods to the rebel camp, where they agree to help the outlaws there mount a raid on the Castle before the guards can punish the villagers for the party’s actions.

GM’s Summary:
Ulshar leaves the party to get reinforcements from Marienburg, leaving the others with a sudden legal barrier from the Merchants’ Guild, only resolved when they agreed to do Don Luigi a transport-related favour. Sailing back down to Signal Tower #2, Alric & Adelyn successfully sneak in, find Herzen and Heidlemann resting for the evening, and spring an attack that kills the cultists. Searching through their gear, they find hundreds of crowns worth of gold, which Adelyn steals in a fit of madness. Alric shoots her, causing her to drop the money, but she continues on to the Ungenannt and sails it North. Alric frees the trapped construction workers, who’d been forced to dig a tunnel into the secret library beneath the tower, wherein Alric finds some interesting, ancient clues. Adelyn gets control of herself enough to dump Don Luigi’s cargo and bring the barge back, and in the confrontation that follows, Alric shoots and kills her. Alric borrows a couple workers to help him sail back to Kemperbad, where he has the Ungenannt refitted and hires the Wood Elf hunter, Mathulil. He is assigned a new, more difficult smuggling job by Don Luigi to make up for the loss of the last one.

Major Retcon:
Brendon only realised in the following session that he was entitled to spend a Fate point to keep Adelyn alive, so we agreed that it wouldn’t make too much of a difference to go back and reverse all of this, replacing anything Mathulil did in session 28 and 29 with Adelyn’s virtually identical actions instead. Mathulil now officially never existed. Adelyn fell into the river and was easily rescued by Alric, giving them a chance to talk everything over (revealing all of Adelyn’s past sneakiness) and come to a compromise. The other major change that had to happen was that there’s no longer an easy, decapitated scapegoat to present to Don Luigi when his cargo goes missing, so there’s now extra pressure from an even less pleased Don to fulfill this new mission.

GM’s Summary:
The party sails slowly up the Stir, reaching the falls at Unterbaum. There, the locals agree to help them find Herzen, sending their druid as a guide. They reach a place called the Devil’s Bowl, a crater with an obvious Chaos taint, but can find nothing except signs that something large and heavy was taken from it a long time ago, and that Herzen’s party came here on horseback more than a week before them. Camping that night, they are visited by a ghost who wants them to bury her remains properly, explaining that she was part of the murdered expedition of Dagmar von Wittgenstein. The other betrayed undead are also laid to rest, and the last key for the vault at signal tower #2 is found among them, but then skaven attack, demanding a stone. They are chased off, and the party returns safely to Kemperbad, believing Herzen has a 2 week lead and is most likely going to the signal tower.

GM’s Summary:
The party returns triumphant to Grissenwald with a pile of treasure and a stuffed crocodile. They decide Etelka must have gone to Middenheim via the Barren Hills, and so sail up to Kemperbad, where they sell some of the cargo they bought in Grissenwald, run an errand for Don Luigi Belladonna and buy new armour for themselves (at which point, 500 crowns somehow disappear from the party’s kitty), before attempting to rob back as much money as they could from the same dealers.

GM’s Summary:
Retreating to Grissenwald after their forest battle, the party spends several days in town resting and trading. When they return to the Black Peaks, there are hardly any goblins to be found, and they easily enter the tower, killing its few remaining defenders, including the goblin chief, uncover clues about Etelka’s plans, rescue some prisoners, and find a large treasure.

GM’s Summary:
The goblin raiders are fought off and the farmers are very grateful. The party goes back to town the next day to recuperate and buy supplies, then make their way to the Dwarves’ mine, where they meet Durak Dimholt, taking him with them into the mine. There, they fight off several goblins, but accidentally kill Dimholt too. The next couple of days are spent fortifying and exploring the mine – which appears to be a used-up coal mine – and engaging in minor skirmishes against goblin raiders. Eventually, the party made its way to Etelka’s tower, and this led to a large battle against 17 goblins, which the party only barely survived. They returned to the mine to shelter for the night, having failed to get closer than 500m close to the tower.

GM’s Summary:
The party arrives at Grissenwald and learns the location of the Black Peaks, as well as confirming that Etelka Herzen has bought a mine there. The impoverished local dwarves in the settlement of Khazid Slumbol claim that she cursed them into selling it to them. There are also reports of nearby farms being raided. The party sets out to investigate the farms, finding nothing but destruction and small, clawed footprints, until they decide to stake out a surviving farm. Two nights later, it is attacked by Goblin wolf-riders.
