GM’s Summary:
Alric and Adelyn pursue their investigation further by pressing Katarina to force the palace guards to allow them into Hoflich’s room. Inside, they find his dead body. Soon, a plot to kill the Graf is revealed, and they arrive in the throne room only just soon enough to find a Doppleganger Boris choking the real Boris. The assassin is killed and Boris, upon hearing the party’s story, sends them to fetch him Wasmeier. He has already left the city on foot, and is caught just as he magically wrecks the viaduct leading up to the city behind him, almost sending Adelyn plummeting to her death. Alric strikes him severely, but Wasmeier retaliates by spewing burning acid-blood all over Alric, completely incapacitating him. Adelyn finishes the job, but when they return to the palace, the Graf’s only reward is to expel them from the Empire.

GM’s Summary:
Following Josef’s last lead, Alric and Piers find a secret hideout below an abandoned building, and successfully kill or capture all of its occupants. There is some sign that Ehrlich‘s niece might have been held here, but she clearly isn’t anymore and the surviving occupants struggle to remain conscious long enough to be interrogated. They are delivered to the Cathedral of Ulric for further examination.

In the mean time, a visit to the palace, with the support of Katarina Todbringer, ends with no progress, as her large entourage of servants make it impossible to sneak past the Knights Panther into the locked chambers of Law Lord Hoflich. She does, at the very least, appear to take the threat against her father seriously.

Following this, Alric decides to break into Wasmeier‘s house, with Piers and Karl Matthaus’s street starfish providing some initial distractions. Alric’s snooping yields little, and a chance encounter with a servant soon escalates to melee against several household staff, with the Watch following close behind. Alric finds a hidden exit to the stables, where an odd spike-covered wagon appears to be stored, apparently empty. Alric sets fire to it, then turns his attention to the pair of warhorses stabled there. Before he can finish, there is a massive explosion. The very badly burned Alric Konrad struggles to escape the concerned crowd trying to tend his injuries, eventually making his way back to the Templar’s Arms Inn.

GM’s Summary:
The next morning, Willow runs into old circus colleagues, and persuades them to help the party’s investigations. They begin by breaking into the house of Law Lord Ehrlich, catching him by surprise and persuading him to reveal that his niece has been abducted, and that the kidnappers have been blackmailing him. The party agrees to help him. Further inquiries with the Colleges of Magic, the Ar-Ulric, the local gangs and even Katarina Todbringer yield nothing new, but Josef Gropius suggests a possible location for a criminal who might match the description of the woman connected with all the blackmailings. After he reveals this, Alric sneaks into Josef’s home and slits his throat.

GM’s Summary:
A stop at the Opera reveals that, among many others, Gotthard Goebbels is watching the performance, so the party decides to try to raid his mansion again. Information bought from a local thief suggests that entering via the roof might be easiest, and this seems to bear out. Exploring the upper levels reveals both signs of Chaos, including letters in Goebbels’s office from Margritte von Wittgenstein, and a lot of sex-related activity. One room combines both, when a Beast of Two Backs attacks the party. All indications suggest that the occupants are members of the Jade Scepter.

Downstairs, Adelyn and Willow are almost drawn into a Slaaneshi orgy of Chaos, under the influence of some magic pipe, but Alric kills the piper and sets fire to the building. After some fighting against lesser demons and house guards, Goebbels is killed, his body reverting to the corrupted and malformed appearance of Gotthard von Wittgenstein. The authorities accept the City Champions explanation about rooting out Chaos, and the building is allowed to burn to the ground.

GM’s Summary:
Adelyn takes the recovering Willow down the sewers to see the abandoned Beastmen camp, while Piers charts the sewers as best he can and Alric finds the Ar-Ulric to inform him of the camp site’s discovery. The Ar-Ulric promises to send experts to investigate. Checking in with the city’s criminal elements, the party find that Joseph the information peddler is interested in buying what they’ve learned so far, and in return gives them some idea of the drug trade conducted through The Pit tavern. They buy some laughing powder there and bribe the barman to tell them when a woman matching the description given by Chancellor Sparsam could be found buying her stock from him (which should be the evening of the 7th).

GM’s Summary:
The party investigates the sewers the previous nights’ attackers supposedly came in through and find, apart from a lone, old dwarf guard guarding the tunnels, an exit to the base of the mountain, and not too far off, an abandoned campsite. A short meeting with Chancellor Sparsam reveals his drug habit, pushed on him by a mysterious woman, is behind his support for the new taxes. An even briefer interview with Law Lord Wasmeier reveals very little and seems to annoy him.

GM’s Summary:
An extensive espionage operation is put in place to keep track of Emmanuelle’s maid, who engages in several unremarkable Carnival activities, before the party interrogates her in her bed. Alric also takes part in the first night of the Blackpool Lights wizardry display. Then, when they’ve all returned to bed, there’s a huge commotion from downstairs, which turns out to be a band of Skaven, Beastmen and Goblins, trying to capture guests as hostages down in the bar. The intruders are all killed, and Willow is almost killed too, but for the intervention of another mage, Erina Eberhauer. A crude note calling for help is found on one of the corpses.

GM’s Summary:
The party decide to buy an inn, as a front for future smuggling and fence work. Adelyn initially tries her luck with the Drowned Rat’s owner, Fritz, but when she returns, she finds Willow (who’s bought a wolf and needs somewhere willing to keep it) has already begun negotiations with Uli Breitner, owner of the Templar’s Arms Inn, where they’re staying. A group effort succeeds in bringing the price down, on the condition that Uli retains ownership of the land (so they owe him monthly rent for that), he gets a cut of the profit, and the exchange is only effective from the start of the next month, allowing him to keep all the Carnival profit.

After this is settled, they go to watch the ice dancing again, looking for people worth talking to, when Alric has the sudden idea that he should privately confront the Ar-Ulric about his alleged affair. He manages enough tact that the priest confesses and tries to get Alric to help him foil the blackmailer, Elise Kaltblutig. To do this, the party works to get Emmanuelle Schlagen to talk to them, ultimately leading to an elaborate scheme whereby Adelyn, posing as a palace maid, spent an afternoon spying on Emmanuelle’s normal maid.

The party are refused an immediate audience with Law Lord Wasmeier, and Alric discusses Palace gossip with Petra Liebkosen over lunch, but little other investigation is done. Karl the street starfish is hired to assemble a team of kids to snoop on certain city officials for the party.
